The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic – Mobile Phone Review

Overview: The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone, announced earlier this month is the world’s first S60 based touch screen alluring gadget from Nokia. The phone features a very sleek look. But this is not the only reason why it should be in your collection. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone has so many features that you can spend your entire day playing with it.To start with, the Smartphone features 3.2’ touch screen, which of course is smaller than that of the iPhone. But considering the fact that it comes with a resolution of 640 x 360 meaning a widescreen featuring 30fps NTSC playback, it makes the screen better than any of its competitor in the market as of now. The pixel rate is rarely available in other phones that still have not crossed 320 x 288.
Music Playback: The 30 fps playback ensures clear and smooth playback. This also means that the Smartphone can be connected to a widescreen large TV for even better viewing of the playback. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone is supposed to run on the 4G (quad band GSM) which supports most of the frequencies of the worldwide carriers. Unfortunately the phone will not be compatible with the 3G carriers of the USA. It will, however, make use of the AT&T as well as T-Mobile to connect to other phones in America As a strong competitor to Apple’s iPhone, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone is sure to eat up a major share of the iPhone as it will be less costly than the iPhone. The Nokia officials are estimating the pricing around $220 + taxes and subsidies.
Camera: Another feature that makes it worth collecting is its 3.2 MP camera that can capture still as well as video images with blur reduction. Not only you can playback the video or pictures on the touch screen or TV, you can also share the videos on the internet (Facebook and Flickr) using the camera’s own inbuilt functions. The Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone features an easy to understand GUI. It features dropdown menus similar to the ones in the Microsoft Windows so that you can easily operate the phone. You need not browse through an array of icons to get to the feature which you want to use.
As a gift to the buyers of the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone, the company is offering a one subscription to Nokia Music Store. You can listen to unlimited songs and music for a year and at the end of the year, you get to keep the music that you have downloaded to your set. There is a separate menu option that lets you browse and select songs from the Nokia Music Store. Apart from the above mentioned feature, the phone features a graphic equalizer. It supports almost all music formats including RM. files. As of now, the phone comes with an 8GB memory. This is a bit less than what iPhone offers but the officials say that they will be increasing the inbuilt memory to incorporate up to 16GB by 2009.
Summary: Apart from the music and camera functions, the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone also doubles up as an internet connection that you can use directly or in combination with your laptop. This means you keep in touch with all your office emails and files on the go too. Last, but not the least, unlike other touch screens, this Nokia 5800 XpressMusic Smartphone offers handwriting input. Not only can you type your emails using the keypad, you can use the stylus to write anything before shooting it off the internet.
